There are three pieces to an Ardas. Starting with verses from the Dasam Granth’s Chandi di Var, the first part repeats the attributes of Sikhism’s 10 Gurus, from Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind Singh. The Khalsa and petition’s hardships and victories are recounted in the second half. The holy name is saluted in the third. The first and third parts are fixed and cannot be changed, although the second portion can vary, be shortened, and include a prayer such as asking for heavenly help or blessing in coping with everyday concerns, though it is normally in an agreed-upon format.
