Kavirajamarga (a treatise on alakra) from the 9th century, Kavyavalokana and Karnatakabhashabhushana, both written by Nagavarma II in the first half of the 12th century, are among the earlier grammatical works. Kannada’s syntax is very different from that of Indo-European languages.
